twin daughters, Lola and Bella, born in October 2004… His father,<br />

John, played professional soccer in South Africa and England…<br />

Mother is Jean… Has one sister, Joann, who is married to San Jose<br />

Shark Manny Malhotra… Brother, Martin, plays professional soccer<br />

Selected to carry the Olympic torch on its path to the <strong>2010</strong> winter<br />

games in his home province... Was one of four Canadian sports legends<br />

selected to light the cauldron at the opening ceremonies of the <strong>2010</strong><br />

Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, along with Catriona LeMay Doan,<br />

2007… The roast’s proceeds went to an initiative between Nash and the<br />

governor’s office to benefit early childhood education and development<br />

in Arizona… His foundation has teamed with the Whiteman Foundation,<br />

Ibis Foundation of Arizona, Southwest Human Development and the Balsz<br />

School District in <strong>Phoenix</strong> to create Educare Arizona with the goal of improving<br />

outcomes for at-risk children and their families by dedicating funding and<br />

resources to early childhood development... Broke ground on the Educare Arizona<br />

Early Childhood Education and Health Center in <strong>Phoenix</strong> in the summer of <strong>2010</strong>,<br />

a facility that provides 200 low-income children with full-day, full-year care and<br />

education... Helped raise over $2.5 million for the inaugural Yao/Nash Charity Gala<br />

event, a charity basketball game in Sept. 2007 in Beijing, China… Annually hosts<br />

the “Showdown in Chinatown,” a celebrity soccer game in the heart of New York<br />

City to benefit the Steve Nash Foundation... Launched the bi-annual Showdown in<br />

Vancouver in September 2009... Sponsor of the Steve Nash Youth Basketball League<br />

in British Columbia that has grown to over 10,000 participants… In February 2008,<br />

became an investor in the eight-team Women’s Professional Soccer League, which<br />

debuted in spring 2009 with franchises in Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles,<br />

Interest in filmmaking led to his own production company, “Meathawk”... Along<br />

with cousin Ezra Holland and in conjunction with ESPN’s 30-for-30 documentary<br />

series, co-directed “Into the Wind,” the story of Canadian hero Terry Fox, which<br />

debuted at the <strong>2010</strong> Toronto International Film Festival... Has also produced<br />

and directed commercial spots for Nike, Vitamin Water and most recently EA<br />

Sports... In 2007, opened the Steve Nash Sports Club in Vancouver, the first sports<br />

gym to aspire to meet standards for energy conservation and environmentally friendly<br />

practices… In Feb. 2008, debuted new Nike “Trash Talk” shoe, made from the wasted<br />

manufacturing scraps of other shoes… The shoe, which went on sale to the public<br />

on Earth Day 2009, is packaged in a box made entirely of recycled fiber... Feb. 2008<br />

announced a partnership with Arizona Public Service (APS), the state’s largest and<br />

longest serving electric utility, to promote the company’s solar and renewable energy<br />

initiatives… Has appeared in local television commercials for APS for those<br />

initiatives... Appeared in photo ads for Make Poverty History, a global campaign against<br />

poverty… Has been featured in advertisements for numerous corporate partners, including<br />

Nike, Vitamin Water and Canadian-based computer manufacturer MDG Computers, Inc,<br />

and used those proceeds to help fund a new intensive care post-operative pediatric<br />

cardiology ward in Paraguay, where his wife grew up… During the summer of 2009,<br />

opened a pre-cancer screening and treatment clinic in his wife’s native Paraguay...<br />

That same summer, traveled to China with the <strong>NBA</strong> to serve as a judge in<br />

American Idol-style basketball tryout in which the winner earned an opportunity<br />

with an <strong>NBA</strong> D-League team... In August 2005, was named to Athlete Advisory<br />

Boards of the Olympic Spirit Toronto, which has the world’s first and only<br />

Olympic Discovery Center… Grew up in Victoria, British Columbia, and<br />

played hockey, lacrosse and soccer… An avid fan of English soccer,<br />

his favorite club is Tottenham… Subject of the book “Long Shot:<br />

Steve Nash’s Journey to the <strong>NBA</strong>,” by Jeff Rudd… Averaged 21.3<br />

points, <strong>11</strong>.2 assists and 9.1 rebounds as a senior at St. Michaels<br />

University High in Victoria, British Columbia… His Santa Clara<br />

No. <strong>11</strong> jersey was retired at his alma mater on Sept. 18, 2006, the<br />

first jersey raised to the rafters at the Leavey Center… Born in<br />

Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to Canada at the age of 18<br />
