4/1: Alvin Gentry won his second NBA Western
Conference Coach of the Month award
following the Suns’ 12-2 March. Gentry
became just the third coach in franchise
history (Fitzsimmons, D’Antoni) to earn
multiple career monthly honors.
4/2: Amar’e Stoudemire named NBA Western
Conference Player of the Month, the second
such honor of his career and first since
April 2005.
4/5: Signed Dwayne Jones from the Austin Toros
of the NBA Development League.
4/7: Assigned Taylor Griffin to the Iowa Energy
of the NBA Development League. Griffin was
recalled on April 12.
4/22: Jason Richardson scored a playoff careerhigh
42 points on eight three-pointers made,
one shy of an NBA and franchise record, in
Game 3 of the Suns’ first-round playoff series
against the Trail Blazers in Portland.
4/26: Grant Hill named 2009-10 NBA
Sportsmanship Award winner, the NBA-record
third Joe Dumars Trophy of his career.
5/5: Celebrating Cinco de Mayo, Suns wore “Los
Suns” jerseys for Game 2 of Western
Conference Semifinal series. Phoenix defeats
San Antonio, 110-102, in front of a sellout
crowd at US Airways Center.
5/6: Steve Nash and Amar’e Stoudemire named
All-NBA Second Team selections.
5/7: Playoff rookie Goran Dragic scored an
astounding 23 fourth-quarter points as
Phoenix overcame an 18-point deficit to
build an insurmountable 3-0 series lead over
the San Antonio Spurs en route to a
surprising sweep of its longtime playoff foe.
5/9: Steve Nash received six stitches above his
right eye after an inadvertent Tim Duncan
elbow and returned to the game to record 10
points and five assists in the game’s fourth
quarter despite his right eye swelling almost
completely shut.
5/23: Steve Nash suffered a minimally displaced
nasal fracture with displaced cartilage in a
fourth-quarter collision with the Lakers’
Derek Fisher in the Suns’ 118-109 win over
Los Angeles in Game 3 of the Western
Conference Finals at US Airways Center.
6/8: Grant Hill exercised player option to return
to Phoenix for 2010-11 season.
6/15: Suns and President of Basketball Operations
and General Manager Steve Kerr announced
that Kerr would leave the club at the end of
his contract on June 30.
6/24: Selected Georgia Tech forward Gani Lawal
(46th overall, second round) and Miami (FL)
forward Dwayne Collins (60th overall,
second round) in 2010 NBA Draft
6/24: Exercised third-year contract option on head
coach Alvin Gentry for 2011-12 season.
6/24: Signed assistant coaches Dan Majerle,
Bill Cartwright and Igor Kokoskov through
2011-12 season.
6/29: Named Noel Gillespie assistant
coach/advance scout.
7/8: Re-signed free agent Channing Frye to a
five-year deal.
7/9: Completed sign-and-trade deal with New York
that sends free agent Amar’e Stoudemire to
Knicks. Phoenix received a trade exception.
7/9: Acquired Hakim Warrick in a sign-and-trade
deal with the Chicago Bulls in exchange for a
2011 second-round pick. Warrick signed a
four-year contract.
7/14: Acquire Josh Childress in a sign-and-trade
deal with the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for
a 2012 second-round pick. Childress signed a
five-year contract.
7/14: Acquire Hedo Turkoglu from Toronto Raptors
in exchange for Leandro Barbosa and
Dwayne Jones.
7/20: Named sports attorney Lon Babby the club’s
president of basketball operations.
