Segregation <strong>of</strong> potent stra<strong>in</strong>s<br />

As described under section 2.2.8.e. the cultures were subjected for<br />

primary screen<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>ret</strong> <strong>liquor</strong> supplemented with NH 4Cl,NH 4N03 and<br />

Yeast autolysate identified to genera and subjected to secondary screen<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>ret</strong> <strong>liquor</strong> without any addition <strong>of</strong> nutrients. Those which exhibited fairly<br />

higher percentage <strong>of</strong>polyphenoI consumption were segregated and subjected<br />

for further characterization as described under the section 2.2.7.a t02.2.7.g<br />

Ma<strong>in</strong>tenance <strong>of</strong>cultures<br />

The segregated bacterial and fungal cultures were ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong><br />

nutrient agar and Sabouraud dextrose agar vials prepared <strong>in</strong> <strong>ret</strong> <strong>liquor</strong><br />

(20ppt) and one set was overlaid with sterile liquid paraff<strong>in</strong> and the other<br />

sealed with paraff<strong>in</strong> wax.<br />
