English–Combination Classes
ARTS & HUMANITIES DIVISION
The English Department’s “combination classes”
give students the opportunity to approach two
topics at the same time to improve their skills
and understanding of both. For example, in a 10credit
composition and literature combination,
students read, discuss, analyze, and write about
significant literary works. The Department recommends
that students in combination classes have
college-level placement.
COOL–ENGLISH COMPOSITION
AND LITERATURE • 10 CR
The “Cool” attitude which is so pervasive in
American Media is only 50 years old, but its roots
are much older. We will map out Cool’s origins in
European, Asian, and African cultures through
various movements in American music, cinema,
and literature.
