Ethnic & Cultural Studies
SOCIAL SCIENCE DIVISION
The Ethnic & Cultural Studies Department is
interdisciplinary in nature, coordinating the
courses, activities, and projects that will enhance
students’ abilities to function in our increasingly
multicultural, multiethnic world. Courses draw on
methodologies and theories from both the social
sciences and humanities, allowing students to develop
an understanding of multiple perspectives
and to connect ideas across disciplines. In view of
increasing diversity in the U.S. and globalization
worldwide, the department provides students with
a focus on ethnic and cultural issues, exposure to
scholarship from historically underrepresented
groups, and preparation to live in a culturally
complex world.
