Multi-Cultural Services<br />

Multi-Cultural Services (MCS) assists the college<br />

in providing high quality, culturally-sensitive<br />

academic and support services to students<br />

of color, low-income students, immigrant<br />

students, and L/G/Bi/TG students at BCC. MCS<br />

services include outreach, academic advising,<br />

counseling, advocacy, course instruction, tutoring<br />

and mentoring, cultural clubs and organizations,<br />

and cultural events planning.<br />

Parent Education – Preschool<br />

The Parent Education program provides parents<br />

with support, skills, and knowledge to help them<br />

in their task of raising healthy families. Every<br />

class offers age appropriate children’s programs.<br />

These classes are located on our BCC campus<br />

and throughout our communities including<br />

Snoqualmie, Carnation, Renton, Sammamish,<br />

Issaquah, <strong>Bellevue</strong>, and Mercer Island. One-daya-week<br />

classes as well as cooperative preschools<br />

offer your child a rich early learning experience.<br />

Registration for the September-June school<br />

year begins in January, with continuous<br />

enrollment until classes are full. Call (425)<br />

Infant Labs<br />

Classes for families with newborns up to one<br />

year of age. Parent and baby both attend.<br />

Wobblers/1st and 2nd Year Toddlers<br />

Classes for families with one- two- and young<br />

three-year-olds. Parent and child attend together.<br />

Cooperative Preschools<br />

Includes parent involvement, leadership, and<br />

parent education. Starting at age three, the two-<br />

to four-day-a-week preschools offer developmentally<br />

appropriate curriculum from trained<br />

early childhood education teachers. Parent<br />

education is provided by college faculty.<br />

Enrichment Classes<br />

Creative Development Lab<br />

One-day-a-week class for hands-on creative<br />

activities for three- to five-year-old children.<br />

Includes parent involvement and parent education<br />

based on the cooperative model.<br />

New Saturday Classes<br />

Morning preschool classes with parent education<br />

for Dads/Grandparents <strong>Fall</strong> and Winter<br />

quarters. Parenting discussions in Spring 2007.<br />

Discovery Lab<br />

One-day-a-week late afternoon class for the<br />

scientist in the family designed for five- to<br />

seven-year-old children. A parent education<br />

workshop is held monthly.<br />

P.A.L.S. (Parents As Learners in School)<br />

A new parent education program serving the<br />

families attending the BCC Early Learning,<br />

Family, and Childcare Center.<br />

Summer Kids Camp<br />

For children ages 3-5 years on the BCC campus<br />

during Summer Quarter. Summer Kids Camp<br />

offers a flexible class schedule at a reasonable<br />

cost. Call for a brochure and registration form<br />

each year beginning in April, (425) 564-2365.<br />

Student E-Mail Access<br />

Currently enrolled BCC students are eligible for<br />

e-mail accounts at no additional cost. Come to<br />

the Open Computer Lab (N250) after the first<br />

day of the quarter to set up an e-mail account.<br />

The accounts are active on a quarter-by-quarter<br />

basis. Check the Computing Services website<br />

■ drop or add a class;<br />

■ find out about other college services.<br />

Tech Prep Program<br />

High school students may earn college credit<br />

for certain professional/technical classes taken<br />

at the high school. The student must be registered<br />

with the Tech Prep program and while<br />

in high school must complete the high-school<br />

classes with a grade of “A” or “B” in order to<br />

receive college credit.<br />

TRiO Student Support Services<br />

TRiO helps students succeed in college by<br />

providing personal, academic, and other assistance.<br />

To be eligible, a student must either<br />

be a first-generation college student (neither<br />

parent has a bachelor’s degree) or be financially<br />

disadvantaged (according to federal low-income<br />

standards).<br />

Veterans’ Office<br />

Eligible veterans, reservists, or dependents<br />

of veterans who plan to apply for benefits<br />

must contact the Veteran Coordinator in the<br />

Financial Aid Office as early as possible.<br />

Web Registration<br />

Students can go to the BCC website, www.bcc.<br />

ctc.edu, to register for classes and to check<br />

grades for past quarters, current grades (as soon<br />

as they are posted), financial aid application<br />

status, and date and time for registration for the<br />

coming quarter.<br />

Web registration hours:<br />

Monday – Friday 6:00 a.m. – midnight<br />

Saturday 6:00 a.m. – midnight<br />

Sunday midnight – noon<br />

To use Web registration you will need to know<br />

your Student Identification Number and your<br />

Personal Identification Number (PIN). Your<br />

birth date is initially assigned as your PIN.<br />

Please change your PIN the first time you use<br />

Web registration.<br />

Women’s Center<br />

BCC’s Women’s Center provides a variety of<br />

information and referral services for students,<br />

prospective students, alumni, and members of<br />

the community, both men and women.<br />

Worker Retraining<br />

Worker Retraining offers tuition assistance,<br />

educational planning, and priority registration<br />

for those who are currently unemployed or have<br />

exhausted those benefits in the past two years, for<br />

displaced homemakers, and for those who were<br />

self-employed in a declining industry. For eligibility,<br />

enrollment, and program information, attend<br />

one of the free weekly orientation meetings.<br />

to low income parents including free<br />
