1.0 INTRODUCTION
GAIL (India) Limited is one of the outstanding Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs)
in the country today. It is one of the Navratna enterprises of India.
Gas transmission and distribution forms bulk of GAIL’s business today followed
by gas processing for LPG production and production of petrochemical products
(HDPE & LLDPE) and transmission of LPG through pipeline.
GAIL was established by Government of India in August, 1984 for post handling
post-exploration activities related to natural gas. GAIL has emerged and
maintained its position No. 1 Gas Company of India. It has also received several
safety awards from the Oil Industry safety Council. It’s processing plant received
highest 5 star rating and the prestigious “Sword of Honour” from the British
Safety Council. The company’s pipeline systems, LPG plants, Petrochemical
plant and Gas Technology Institute have received the ISO 14001 certification.
The subject of this tender is to invite Bids from reputed companies for Supply,
Installation, Testing and Commissioning for PCs and associated peripherals
across GAIL sites.
2.0 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) IN GAIL
GAIL is an IT savvy company with all the employees having the access to E-Mail
and the PC penetration (PC access) in the employees being 100%. GAIL has got
62 locations connected on Wide Area Network (WAN) (Details of the
connectivity diagram attached) from 64 Kbps to 4 Mbps on different media like
VSAT, Microwave and Optical Fibre.
GAIL made significant investments in IT infrastructure and software over the
last five years in view of the current developments in the industry and GAIL's
growth plans. In the last two years, GAIL has taken significant steps to leverage
its strength of existing robust IT infrastructure. An IT Policy has been put in
place.

strategy can provide the real competitive edge to companies. The company's IT
initiatives are spread across all its functional areas and the objective is to use IT
