Peter Machamer is Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> His<strong>to</strong>ry and <strong>Philosophy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Science</strong> at <strong>the</strong> University<br />
<strong>of</strong> Pittsburgh and Associate Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> Center for <strong>Philosophy</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Science</strong>. He edited <strong>the</strong> Cambridge Companion <strong>to</strong> Galileo (1998), and was co-edi<strong>to</strong>r<br />
<strong>of</strong> Scientific Controversies (2000) and <strong>The</strong>ory and Method in Neuroscience (2001).<br />
He is currently working on a book about interpretation in science and art and<br />
maybe publishing a collection <strong>of</strong> his essays on <strong>the</strong> seventeenth century.<br />
Roberta L. Millstein is an Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Philosophy</strong><br />
at California State University, Hayward. She received her A.B. from Dartmouth<br />
College with a double major in Computer <strong>Science</strong> and <strong>Philosophy</strong>. She earned her<br />
Ph.D. in <strong>Philosophy</strong>, with a minor in <strong>the</strong> His<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> <strong>Science</strong> and Technology, at<br />
<strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Minnesota. She teaches courses in <strong>the</strong> his<strong>to</strong>ry and philosophy<br />
<strong>of</strong> science (including courses in science and ethics), and publishes articles in <strong>the</strong><br />
philosophy <strong>of</strong> biology.<br />
Lynn Hankinson Nelson is Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Philosophy</strong> at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong><br />
Missouri-St. Louis. She is co-author with Jack Nelson <strong>of</strong> On Quine (2000), coedi<strong>to</strong>r<br />
with Jack Nelson <strong>of</strong> Feminism, <strong>Science</strong>, and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Philosophy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Science</strong> (1996<br />
and 1997), guest edi<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> a special issue <strong>of</strong> Syn<strong>the</strong>se devoted <strong>to</strong> feminism and<br />
science (1995), and <strong>the</strong> author <strong>of</strong> Who Knows: From Quine <strong>to</strong> Feminist Empiricism<br />
(1990).<br />
Laura Ruetsche is Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Philosophy</strong> at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Pittsburgh.<br />
Her interests include <strong>the</strong> foundations <strong>of</strong> physical <strong>the</strong>ories, <strong>the</strong> epistemology<br />
<strong>of</strong> science (including feminist approaches), and Pla<strong>to</strong>.<br />
Michael Silberstein is Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Philosophy</strong> at Elizabeth<strong>to</strong>wn<br />
College. He has published and delivered papers in both <strong>Philosophy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Science</strong> and<br />
<strong>Philosophy</strong> <strong>of</strong> Mind. His primary areas <strong>of</strong> research and interest are philosophy <strong>of</strong><br />
physics and <strong>the</strong> philosophy <strong>of</strong> cognitive-neuroscience respectively.<br />
Jim Woodward is Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Philosophy</strong> and Executive Officer for <strong>the</strong><br />
Humanities at <strong>the</strong> California Institute <strong>of</strong> Technology. He is completing a book on<br />
explanation.<br />
John Worrall is Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Philosophy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Science</strong> and Co-Direc<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Centre<br />
for <strong>Philosophy</strong> <strong>of</strong> Natural and Social <strong>Science</strong> at <strong>the</strong> London School <strong>of</strong> Economics.<br />
He was edi<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> British Journal for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Philosophy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Science</strong> from 1974<br />
<strong>to</strong> 1982, and edi<strong>to</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> collected works <strong>of</strong> Imre Laka<strong>to</strong>s. He has published<br />
widely on <strong>to</strong>pics in general philosophy <strong>of</strong> science and his<strong>to</strong>ry and philosophy <strong>of</strong><br />
nineteenth century physics. He is currently finishing a book on <strong>the</strong>ory-change in<br />
science and developing an interest in issues in <strong>the</strong> methodology <strong>of</strong> medicine.<br />
