Distinguished Marines<br />

The Postal Service will issue 37-cent, Distinguished<br />

Marines commemorative stamps in four designs, in a pressure-sensitive<br />

adhesive (PSA) pane of 20 (Item 458900),<br />

on November 10, <strong>2005</strong>, in Washington, DC, and Oceanside,<br />

California. The stamps designed by Phil Jordan of<br />

Falls Church, Virginia, also go on sale nationwide November<br />

10, <strong>2005</strong>.<br />

These stamps commemorate four legendary marines<br />

who served with bravery and distinction during the 20th<br />

century: John Basilone, Daniel J. Daly, John A. Lejeune,<br />

and Lewis B. Puller. This issuance honors a tradition of<br />

excellence in military service that began with the establishment<br />

of the first two battalions of marines by the Continental<br />

Congress in 1775.<br />

After applying the first day of issue postmark, the Postal<br />

Service will return the envelopes through the mail. There is<br />

no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked<br />

by December 9, <strong>2005</strong>.<br />

How to Order the First Day of Issue Postmark<br />

Customers have 30 days to obtain the first day of issue<br />

postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamps at their<br />

local Post Office, by telephone at 800-STAMP-24, and at<br />

the Postal Store Web site at www.usps.com/shop. They<br />

should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice,<br />

address the envelopes (to themselves or others), and place<br />

them in a larger envelope addressed to:<br />
