E.1 Intruder/Suspicious Person<br />
Definition: An intruder or suspicious person or person(s) are those who enter the<br />
grounds or building <strong>and</strong> do not appear to have a legitimate purpose for being present.<br />
Alert Signal: “All staff – Perimeter lockdown in effect at this time” (if a lockdown is<br />
deemed to be appropriate).<br />
Principal Response<br />
Obtain a description of the intruder(s) <strong>and</strong> any suspicious actions he has shown.<br />
Determine if a lockdown is appropriate. Announce a Perimeter Lockdown if a<br />
lockdown is desired.<br />
Contact the district <strong>Safe</strong>ty Director <strong>and</strong> SRO. Provide the <strong>Safe</strong>ty Director <strong>and</strong><br />
SRO with all available information regarding intruder descriptions <strong>and</strong> actions.<br />
It can be dangerous for administrators <strong>and</strong>/or staff to approach intruders or<br />
suspicious persons.<br />
Upon arrival, coordinate actions with the law enforcement official.<br />
Notify the Superintendent’s office.<br />
Brief staff on the outcome of the situation as soon as it is resolved. Staff Response<br />
Direct students into areas that can be secured.<br />
Secure doors <strong>and</strong> exterior windows (if a lockdown is announced).<br />
Do not allow students under your supervision to leave a secure area without<br />
approval from the Principal.<br />
Communicate with the Principal or office staff if you have pertinent information<br />
(use the intercom, e-mail, radio or telephone as available).<br />
Attempt to calm students under your care.<br />
Do not attempt to approach suspicious persons.<br />
E.2 Disruptive/Unruly Person<br />
Definition: A disruptive or unruly person is a student, employee or visitor who becomes<br />
unruly to the point of disruption of the academic or work environment.<br />
Alert Signal: “All staff – Perimeter lockdown in effect at this time” (if a lockdown is<br />
deemed to be appropriate).<br />
Principal Response<br />
Determine the person(s) who are disruptive <strong>and</strong> quickly assess the degree of their<br />
unruly behavior. Determine if a lockdown is appropriate to keep the situation from<br />
escalating to other parts of the facility. Announce a Perimeter Lockdown if a lockdown<br />
is desired.<br />
Contact the <strong>District</strong> <strong>Safe</strong>ty Director <strong>and</strong> SRO. Provide them with all available<br />
information regarding intruder descriptions <strong>and</strong> actions. It can be dangerous for<br />
administrators <strong>and</strong>/or staff to approach unruly persons.<br />
If possible, seek a position of safety by positioning a physical barrier between<br />
yourself <strong>and</strong> the individual(s). For example, take a position behind the counter.<br />
