If a “Tornado Warning” is announced:<br />
o Move into tornado safe areas.<br />
o Assist any individuals with special needs.<br />
o Once evacuees have reached the evacuation site, determine that all<br />
students are present. Provide the name(s) of any missing student(s) to<br />
the Principal or his/her designee.<br />
o Instruct all students to remain in the duck <strong>and</strong> cover position until danger<br />
passes.<br />
o School bus drivers will not be permitted to leave on bus routes as long as<br />
the warning remains in effect.<br />
G.2. Flooding/Potential Flooding<br />
Alert Signal: Announce the situation over the public address system (PA).<br />
Principal Response<br />
Consult with the Superintendent <strong>and</strong> <strong>Safe</strong>ty Director to determine best course<br />
of action. If evacuation to a remote family reunification site is determined to be the<br />
best course of action, implement family reunification protocol.<br />
Discuss the safety of transportation routes if evacuation is deemed appropriate.<br />
Give alert signal over the PA.<br />
Assign the Head Custodian to shut off utilities at main switches if it appears safe<br />
to do so.<br />
Monitor weather radios or your local broadcast station.<br />
Staff Response<br />
Unplug all appliances. Do not touch electrical equipment.<br />
Avoid downed electrical lines.<br />
If there has been flooding in the community, do not drink tap water due to<br />
possible contamination.<br />
G.3. Earthquake<br />
Alert Signal: Tremors or a low rumbling sound. Announce instructions via intercom,<br />
classroom telephone or personal notification.<br />
Principal Response<br />
If indoors, seek cover under sturdy furniture or against a wall near the center of<br />
the building <strong>and</strong> away from glass.<br />
If outdoors, move away from buildings, gas <strong>and</strong> electrical lines.<br />
Call 911 or emergency services, if needed.<br />
Notify <strong>Safe</strong>ty Director.<br />
