Using PCFP
This manual is written to provide a general understanding of how to use PCFP and to
serve as a specific reference for information on each of the PCFP functions.
Documentation Updates
This document contains all the information that was available at the time of publication.
Changes identified after release of this document are included in problem list entry (PLE)
The primary audience for this document is the programmer who has experience on the
OS 2200 system and knows at least one of the programming languages from which you
can call PCFP.
This section explains how to use Program-Callable FURPUR (PCFP) and provides
examples. These examples are intended to help you understand how PCFP works in
general. They do not cover every application of PCFP. The examples show you
• How to prepare a function packet before calling a function
• How to handle return information
After reading this section, you should have a general understanding of how to use PCFP
within programs. Sections 2 – 10 contain detailed information on each PCFP function.
Sections 11 – 13 contain detailed information on each language from which PCFP can be
used.
1.1. Definition of PCFP
Designed to run on the OS 1100 and 2200 Extended Mode systems, Program-Callable
FURPUR (PCFP) extends the capabilities of the FURPUR processor, making its
capabilities available for applications written in C, FORTRAN, and COBOL. Providing a
set of FURPUR-like functions, PCFP is a utility that provides you with a straightforward
way to have programs perform the file and element handling capabilities of FURPUR
without interrupting the flow of the program. PCFP allows you to make file handling
decisions, include those decisions in your program by specifying packet parameters for a
particular PCFP function, and call the function to operate on files you specify. Results
