Happy New Year! I hope you
all had a wonderful Christmas
and will be safely ringing in
the New Year with friends,
family, and all the ones you
love. I’ll be bringing in the
New Year with one of the
things I love, the blackjack
table! I know, I really cannot
figure out why I’m still single.
This is the time of the year
when we all reflect on our lives
and make resolutions to change
things to make ourselves better
in future. Some of the most
popular resolutions are to go
on a diet or eat better, to get
more exercise, to quit smoking
or drinking, and to get more
organized. Others can be less
specific like spending more
time with family or friends,
helping others, learning
something new, and enjoying
life more. I could resolve to do
everything on this list except
that I don’t smoke, but I don’t
like to make any resolutions I
know I’m going to break.
I know Tony would love it
if I would resolve to get the
Last Call done by Friday every
week, but some weeks I just
have too hard of a time finding
a topic. I’m sure all of you have
noticed some “off” weeks after
reading my article and thought,
“who cares?” or “why did I
need to read 700 words about
a Kia?” but I try to keep things
as relevant and interesting as
possible week to week. So my
resolution for Tony is that I
will try harder not to turn the
Last Call into the Last Minute
every week. (Editor’s Note:
BEST NEWS EVER!!!)
For myself, I’m going to
work on losing these extra
pounds I put back on in 2012.
I’m not going to say I’m going
on diet because that might
last a week. I will resolve to
pay more attention to what
I am eating and to cut back
on the Dr. Pepper and other
empty calories I’m consuming.
That, plus a little extra activity
should do the trick in a month
or two.
We have several tournaments
I’m going to bowl
coming up in the first quarter
of this year. So, I’m also going
to try to get out and actually
put in some time on the lanes
practicing in the next few
months so I will be sharper
and more competitive. Let’s not
get too specific, but I am going
to try to practice at least twice
a month. I know, I don’t want
to make it too hard on myself
to keep my resolutions.
I’m also going to work on
de-cluttering my life. I think
this will help me as well as
helping others as I have lots of
clothing that no longer fit and I
need to donate. I have to be the
worlds worst at thinking “I’ll
fit back into these one day” and
keeping everything. Problem is,
even if they fit, will I want to
wear them again? So, if anyone
knows a good women’s shelter
or somewhere besides Goodwill
that I should donate, please let
me know.
Obviously holding on to my
past is not helping me move
on to a great future. So, to kick
this year off right I will be following
most of the traditions of
what to eat for good luck and
good fortune in the upcoming
year. They say you should eat
12 grapes at midnight, one for
each month, and if the grape is
sweet it will be a good month.
Do you think if I take 12 sips
of different wines I could ac-
For lunch on New Year’s
Day we will be having all
of the lucky foods. Everyone
knows you have to eat
black-eyed peas, they say
they represent pennies or
wealth and are for good luck
in the upcoming year. You
can’t have peas without good
old-fashioned cornbread. The
golden color of the cornbread
is supposed to be for gold and
wealth, but maybe it could be
for gold in the form of a ring,
