A5.1 CREATING A WELCOMING PLACE
AIM: To promote public access and an attractive and
welcoming environment for all visitors
OBJECTIVES

To maintain free public access for all visitors and promote the
Gardens to non-users.
To ensure the Gardens are open to the public.
To develop and promote the Gardens based on their special
historical, botanical and horticultural interest as a destination
for visitors from further a field.
Improve and extend access for people of all physical
and mental abilities, incorporating DDA compliance.
Provide a venue for appropriate activities, events and
displays which complement the historical, horticultural and
botanical objectives
Increase revenue streams, as appropriate, to meet the revised
running costs for the gardens.
A5.2 A CLEAN AND WELL MAINTAINED SITE
AIM: To conserve and enhance the Botanical
Gardens, recognizing their national
importance as a Grade II registered
historic designed landscape containing
a number of listed buildings
OBJECTIVES
• Encourage the active involvement of people and
organisations in supporting and caring for the Gardens by
means of voluntary activity, guardianship and financial
support
• Ensure high standards within the built landscape
•

Ensure effective repair procedures
Ensure careful development of the plant collections in
sympathy with the designed landscape, the character of
which will be maintained
