A6. MANAGEMENT Sheffield Botanical Gardens is leased from the Town Trust and managed by Sheffield City Council. During the 1980 all council through the country had their funding reduced which resulted in the decline of the Gardens. In 1995/6 a partnership was established an applied to the Heritage lottery was mde. This resulted in an extensive Gardens restoration project from 1999-2005. The Gardens are now managed within the Parks and Countryside service P&C and their responsibilities are to provide the open spaces to the residents of Shefield. Below are some of the modern values provided by the P&C service. SOCIAL PROVISION opportunities for organised activities, meeting places for all ages, promoting community safety HEALTH & WELL-BEING sport, recreation, healthy living, food production and environmental awareness ECOLOGICAL AWARENESS value of being near to nature Local Agenda 21, Biodiversity, Ecology environmental sustainability, conservation LEISURE & RECREATION participation, play, sports, walks, games, activities, pastimes, entertainment amusement, , spectating, relaxation, solitude EDUCATIONAL VALUE ecology, green space heritage “the outdoor classroom”, national curriculum, natural resource, life long learning .
