B2.1.1.2.4. PARKING
• Parking for disabled visitors is available via the Thompson Road entrance.
• There is no parking inside the Gardens for able body visitors.
• Parking is available for groups and societies when using the classroom
facilities.
• Parking is possible along Clarehouse Road and near to the Thompson Road
entrance although restrictions apply during peak times.
• Coaches can park on Clarkehouse Road near the Main Entrance
B2.1.1.2.5. ACCESS
The City Council has a commitment to ensure social inclusion and equal
opportunity at all levels and will all aspects of the Gardens.
• The restoration programme has ensured that people in wheelchairs can
access all parts of the Gardens. The site is gently sloping and there are still a
few sets of steps, but wherever there are steps there is an alternative,
wheelchair-friendly route.
B2.1.1.2.6. TRAIN
The main railway station is located on the eastern site of the city centre. It has
recently undergone an extensive refurbishment linking it to the city bus interchange.
B2.1.1.2.7. TRAM
The nearest tram service stop to the Botanical Gardens is the Sheffield University, a
20 min walk away.
B2.1.1.3. ENTRANCES
Sheffield Botanical Gardens is one of the few Botanical Gardens in the country that
does not charge for admission.
There are three entrances:
• The Main Entrance (Grade II) on Clarkehouse Road B6069 is the most
popular entrance into the Gardens. The Gatehouse building consist of an
information point and the east a visitors shop.
• The Thompson Road Entrance on Thompson Road off Ecclesall Road A625
consists of wrought iron gates hung on stone pillars. This is the only vehicular
entrance into the Gradens, which is flanked by two pedestrian gates on either
side.
• The Brocco Bank Entrance (Grade II) on Botanical Road / Brocco Bank
consists of two gates hung on stone pillars with a turn style on one side.
