Which subscription system is Sundsvalls Tidning using?<br />

Today Sundsvalls Tidning uses PASSAD from the supplier PRESSsystem. Earlier we used<br />

Tieto Enator’s system MPress. PASSAD is used by a few other news<strong>paper</strong>s, e.g. Ystads<br />

Allehanda and Östersunds-Posten.<br />

How old is the system?<br />

The system was taken into use in October 2004.<br />

How does the system work?<br />

After this question I got an lecture how the system works, from in<strong>for</strong>mation about the<br />

subscriber to distribution <strong>of</strong> the news<strong>paper</strong>.<br />

Is it possible to add new parameters to the database concerning in<strong>for</strong>mation about the<br />

subscriber? This could be necessary if the news<strong>paper</strong> decides that it should be possible<br />

to subscribe on a personalized e-<strong>paper</strong> edition.<br />

Today the only in<strong>for</strong>mation that could resemble to this is CRM (Customer Relationship<br />

Management) in<strong>for</strong>mation that is included but not used in the subscriber in<strong>for</strong>mation. Here<br />

you can ad in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>of</strong> what interests the subscriber has. The options are similar to the<br />

different sections in the news<strong>paper</strong>, e.g. sports, news and culture. This CRM in<strong>for</strong>mation is<br />

not intended to be used to a personalized e-<strong>paper</strong> purpose. But because <strong>of</strong> this it should be<br />

possible to ad such parameters to create personalized e-<strong>paper</strong> editions. Tommy Teir was not<br />

completely sure <strong>of</strong> the possibility to ad such parameters but he shall contact the supplier and<br />

find out if this is possible.<br />

Questions regarding techniques were referred to the Supplier PRESSsystem.<br />

Responses from the supplier PRESSYSTEM through Tommy Teir:<br />

Is it possible to add new parameters intended to make PASSAD able to handle different<br />

types <strong>of</strong> subscription? The different types <strong>of</strong> subscriptions are intended <strong>for</strong> a future<br />

e-<strong>paper</strong> edition.<br />

Quote: “What is needed to order/deliver an e-<strong>paper</strong> product and furthermore be able to prize<br />

the different types <strong>of</strong> subscriptions is a special table (to make the product flexible so it can<br />

contain optional number <strong>of</strong> subjects).<br />

In the customers picture the e-<strong>paper</strong> product is booked as a STE, but instead <strong>of</strong> state a<br />

specific edition (<strong>for</strong> example) you state what subjects you want in your e-<strong>paper</strong> edition in a<br />

particular window or sheet. In the prize list <strong>for</strong> this “title” you state what each subject will<br />

cost the customer and how much the discount will be when the subscription exceed a certain<br />

time period, number <strong>of</strong> subjects or a certain amount.”<br />
