The Opera of " Macbeth " proved more attractive<br />

during this engagement than when first presented, the<br />

Lady Macbeth of Viardot having produced a deep im-<br />

pression ; however, it may here be remarked that,<br />

rule, new works are not generally attractive in Dublin ;<br />

it is when the music becomes familiar that the audience<br />

increases in numbers. Several instances of this truth<br />

might be quoted, but that the fact is universally acknow-<br />

ledged there may be a few exceptions, but the rule still
