in an entertainment entitled " Poses Plastiques." Very<br />

classical, but not successful ; as the paucity of drapery on<br />

the goddesses was strongly objected to.<br />

August 2nd. Madame Persian! and Signor Bottesini<br />

appeared at Jullien's Concerts in the Rotundo. Persia ni<br />

was one of the most perfect of Italian vocalists, and<br />

Signor Bottesini the Paganini of double-bass players.<br />

Reeves, Mr. Whitworth, Mr. Delevanti, Mr. H. Horn-<br />

castle, Miss Lanza, and Miss Luscombe. Conductor, Mr.<br />

Lavenu; Leader, Mr. Levey. Operas: "Lucia," "Sonnam-<br />

a favourite soprano, became Mrs. Sims Reeves, and<br />

still remains the happy partner of his fame and fortune.<br />

Miss Lanza afterwards joined the Stock Company. Mr.<br />

H. Horncastle was a brother of George Horncastle, a<br />

great stock favourite, whose singing of the charming song<br />

(in " No Song, no Supper"), " I Locked up all my Trea-<br />

sure," was greatly admired. Mr. H. Horncastle published<br />

an excellent collection of Irish Melodies, now<br />

difficult to be obtained.<br />

December xyth. An engagement with the same Com-<br />

pany commenced.
