Gunn was a remarkable man. Only those who were in<br />

close and intimate relationship with him could appreciate<br />

his capabilities. A good practical musician, he could<br />

well judge of everything relative to that art. Of scene-<br />

painting he seemed to possess a naturally acute know-<br />

ledge and appreciation. Indeed, he possessed all the<br />

attributes necessary for a theatrical manager. But in<br />

whatever position Mr. John Gunn may have been placed,<br />

he must have distinguished himself. All the weight and<br />

responsibility of the management of two theatres (a great<br />

task in any city a fearful one in Dublin) have fallen on<br />

the younger brother, Mr. Michael Gunn, of whom cir-<br />

cumstances will not here permit many words. It only<br />

remains to say, that the mantle has descended to one<br />

inheriting, in many respects in an increased degree, all<br />

the remarkable qualities of his brother John.<br />
