Wollert/Quarry Hills <strong>Social</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Infrastructure</strong> <strong>Assessment</strong><br />
Review <strong>and</strong>, if required, amend the recommendations of this <strong>Assessment</strong> when major strategy policy<br />
<strong>and</strong> planning documents are completed that have relevance to social <strong>and</strong> community infrastructure<br />
provision in Wollert <strong>and</strong> Quarry Hills – e.g. social infrastructure planning tool, aquatics strategy.<br />
<strong>Community</strong> building/development<br />
Appoint a community development officer to work with the Wollert <strong>and</strong> Quarry Hills communities.<br />
Support the early introduction of programs in Wollert <strong>and</strong> Quarry Hills which are specifically targeted<br />
at encouraging vulnerable groups to participate in community life – e.g. playgroups, occasional care,<br />
health <strong>and</strong> fitness programs, arts <strong>and</strong> craft activities etc for young mothers; recreation activities,<br />
music events for youth etc.<br />
Advocate for <strong>and</strong> support the early delivery of critical health services <strong>and</strong> community support<br />
services – community transport, family support programs, M&CH, preschool, early intervention<br />
programs, GP services, allied health services etc.<br />
Facilitate the provision of community transport programs <strong>and</strong> advocate for the early delivery of<br />
public transport services.<br />
Provide facilities (community room, community garden, portable licensed children’s room) <strong>and</strong><br />
funding to support the activities listed in recommendations 2 <strong>and</strong> 3 – these facilities could be<br />
temporary or the initial stage of larger facilities.<br />
Require the early delivery of paths <strong>and</strong> trails to link the residential areas to each other <strong>and</strong> to<br />
community infrastructure.<br />
Create the environment for non-Government agencies to provide services in Epping North-Wollert –<br />
e.g. access to temporary or permanent spaces, promotional <strong>and</strong> administrative support etc.<br />
Development <strong>Areas</strong><br />
Quarry Hills<br />
Develop an integrated community activities centre which comprises 2 licensed preschool rooms, 2<br />
consulting rooms for M&CH <strong>and</strong> visiting services, neighbourhood house <strong>and</strong> activities rooms.<br />
Provide an open space reserve that is suitable for informal play.<br />
Provide 4 local parks in the open space reserve, on the Darebin Creek, at the foot of Quarry Hills<br />
<strong>and</strong>/or within the residential areas. Provide playgrounds in the parks.<br />
Develop a community garden. Integrate it with the open space reserve.<br />
Develop a path network which links the key facilities proposed for Quarry Hills - community activity<br />
centre, recreation reserve, local parks <strong>and</strong> Quarry Hills Bushl<strong>and</strong> Park – <strong>and</strong> connect to the proposed<br />
Darebin Creek Regional Trail.<br />
Assess the feasibility of developing a competition mountain bike venue in the Quarry Hills Bushl<strong>and</strong><br />
Park.<br />
Seek formal confirmation from DEECD as to whether it will provide a school in Quarry Hills.<br />
