Schedule
Hofstra’s schedule this year is loaded with home games as the
Pride will play at the Mack Sports Complex 17 times. The Pride
has some tough mid-major opponents coming in to the Mack
Sports Complex, including Long Island University (the reigning
Northeast Conference champions),
Florida Atlantic (the reigning Sun
Belt regular season champions) and
Iona (the MAAC and CollegeInsider.
com Tournament runners-up). Other
home games include St. Francis (N.Y.),
Manhattan, Binghamton and Colgate,
as well as a to-be-determined opponent
in the ESPN BracketBuster weekend in
February. Hofstra will also travel to the
TicketCity Legend’s Classic, where it
will face Oregon State in the first round,
and then Rhode Island, Cleveland State
and Boston University in the next set of
games.
Overview
Head Coach Mo Cassara took over the
Hofstra program last year and faced
some daunting challenges, but they were
made easier with a player of Jenkins’
caliber to build around. In addition
to his impressive numbers, Jenkins
was an unselfish player who made his
teammates better and instilled a solid
work ethic in the program.
2011-2012 Outlook
Cassara and his staff have a new
challenge this year, which is to make
sure that Jenkins’ legacy isn’t restricted
to his now-retired jersey number in
the rafters. They will have to mold
the players remaining into a team
that can continue to play at the high
level that allowed the Pride to tie for
second last year in the Colonial Athletic
Association, two games ahead of Final
Four participant VCU. Fortunately,
there are plenty of experienced players
to build around, as Moore and Lester are
both fifth-year seniors, Imes and Mejia
have seen plenty of game action, and
McMillan, Nwaukoni and McLendon
all got their feet wet with meaningful
minutes last winter. Replacing Jenkins
won’t be easy, but the Pride has a deep
nucleus that can share the burden and
make sure that Hofstra Basketball
remains a CAA contender.
