Portfolio<br />

• Fig Tree spatial coverages from QuickBird or similar aerial photography or spectral<br />

image <strong>in</strong>terpretation to understand distribution and relationship <strong>of</strong> this critical food<br />

plant species to arboreal and terrestrial faunal species <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>terest.<br />

• More <strong>in</strong>tensive ground surveys <strong>of</strong> Sangkulirang/Mangkalihat area for presence <strong>of</strong><br />

endemic plants and cavernicolous species <strong>in</strong> the numerous caves.<br />

• Relationship <strong>of</strong> human occupation <strong>of</strong> caves <strong>in</strong> S/M sites to species diversity and<br />

ext<strong>in</strong>ction patterns <strong>in</strong> the region<br />

• Impact <strong>of</strong> roads on fragmentation <strong>of</strong> important terrestrial species such as pigs and Sun<br />

Bears and how this may affect tree species distribution or other important ecological<br />

processes <strong>in</strong> the future<br />

• The role <strong>of</strong> silviculture <strong>in</strong> mimick<strong>in</strong>g or substitut<strong>in</strong>g for natural processes that<br />

preserve ecological <strong>in</strong>tegrity <strong>of</strong> important forest patches on the landscape – both<br />

terrestrial and riparian (i.e. – lowland forest surround<strong>in</strong>g Montane systems, riparian<br />

buffer zones that protect water quality <strong>of</strong> rivers).<br />
