can barely hear them over the roar of our ancient heater,
its engine sighing tiredly while I struggle with cold sheets
and eternal longing for warm toes, my feet smothered
underneath a thick moist caul of polyester.
I’d jump into the top bunk with my brothers but they
have already established the rule that a triumvirate
is impossible, would only collapse the structure.
