Local reactions:<br />

• Are fairly common<br />

• Present as redness and<br />

swelling at <strong>the</strong> injection<br />

site.<br />

• Can happen immediately,<br />

or several hours after<br />

injections.<br />

Systemic reactions:<br />

• Less common.<br />

• Include increased allergy symptoms such<br />

as sneezing, nasal congestion or hives.<br />

• Can include swelling in <strong>the</strong> throat,<br />

wheezing or a sensation of tightness in <strong>the</strong><br />

chest, nausea, dizziness, fainting, and/or<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r severe systemic symptoms.<br />

• Systemic reactions require immediate<br />

treatment. See treatment <strong>for</strong> anaphylaxis.
