This panel will cover the challenges faculty face when they teach
courses that address racism critically and directly. We will discuss
a range of issues, including resistance to women and/or faculty
of color, racism denial, lack of institutional support or
understanding of the challenges faculty face, the emotional
energy faculty must exert to deal with issues in a racism-centered
classroom and how that distracts attention away from research
and publishing, how to teach empowerment especially for
people of color, and how we can ask for support from our
institutions.
