from hiking right at the farm where it originates. Some mountain farms in Tirol and Vorarlberg still make butter themselves
and in the process create a very special delicacy: buttermilk. This drink contains many mineral nutrients and a fat content of
less than one per cent. What’s more, a large number of Austrian dairies now create milk, yoghurt and buttermilk products in
many delicious flavours and export them to other countries.

Exhibitions of international contemporary art
The Kunsthaus Bregenz opened in 1997 as an exhibition space for
contemporary art that was unique in terms of its architecture. The
façade, consisting of etched glass shingles, gives Peter Zumthor’s fascinating
structure its characteristic transparent lightness and the ability
to direct natural light into all four levels of the building. This outstanding
quality was honoured with the 1999 Mies van der Rohe Prize for European
architecture.
In the space of only a few years, the Kunsthaus Bregenz has developed
a distinctive profile setting it apart from other museums around the
world. Five to seven temporary exhibitions of current art are presented
each year, nearly without exception in-house productions that the exhibiting
artists design especially for the space. A particular thematic
focal point of the Kunsthaus’s exhibition, publication and presentation
activities is the interface between art and architecture.
