Paths of Abstract Painting. Monet, Kandinsky, Mondrian and the
Aftermath (26 Feb. to 8 June 2008). In the spring of 2008 the BA-CA
Kunstforum Wien will present an exhibition encompassing some 70 works
illustrating the development of abstract painting. The timeline begins with
pioneers of modern art – Kasimir Malevich and Wassily Kandinsky – and
continues through the exponents of abstract expressionism (Mark Rothko,
Jackson Pollock) to contemporary examples (Gerhard Richter, Brice Marden,
Sean Scully). The exhibition also spotlights contemporary abstract painting
in Austria and places it in an international context.
Light-Pictures. From Alfred Stieglitz to Andreas Gursky
(18 Sept. to 2 Nov. 2008). In the fall of 2008 the BA-CA Kunstforum will
present masterpieces of historic photography from the museum’s own
“Fotografis” collection, a treasure trove of over 400 works ranging from the
pioneer days of photography to pictorialism, “straight photography”, experimental
works of the avant-garde and to contemporary examples.
The BA-CA Kunstforum is the first stop for art lovers when it comes to
classical modern painting and the avant-garde styles of the post-war period.
Each year, some 300,000 people visit the one-of-a-kind temporary exhibitions
at this private institution. Leading museums as well as private collectors
present their works here. From van Gogh to Miró, Cézanne to Picasso,
Kandinsky to Chagall and Warhol to Lichtenstein – this is where the
great names of the art world are brought together.
