Article 28 - Bereavement Leave<br />
28.01 An employee on a seniority list will be granted five (5) days leave of absence with pay<br />
to attend a funeral on <strong>the</strong> following basis:<br />
Death of a spouse, child, step-child, parent or step-parent.<br />
28.02 An employee on a seniority list will be granted three (3) days leave of absence with pay<br />
to attend a funeral on <strong>the</strong> following basis:<br />
Death of sister, bro<strong>the</strong>r, fa<strong>the</strong>r-in-law, mo<strong>the</strong>r-in-law, grandparents, grandchild,<br />
spouse’s grandparents, legal guardian or anyone to whom <strong>the</strong> employee might<br />
owe bereavement responsibility as defined by <strong>the</strong> Human Resources<br />
Representative.<br />
28.03 One (1) day’s leave of absence with pay shall be granted to an employee on a seniority<br />
list to attend a funeral on <strong>the</strong> following basis:<br />
Death of sister-in-law, bro<strong>the</strong>r-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law.<br />
Application shall be made to <strong>the</strong> employee’s immediate supervisor.<br />
28.04 An employee shall not be entitled to <strong>the</strong> benefits of Section 28.01, 28.02, 28.03, when<br />
he does not attend <strong>the</strong> funeral of his immediate relative, or fails upon request to furnish<br />
<strong>the</strong> Corporation with reasonable proof of death and of his attendance at <strong>the</strong> funeral.<br />
28.05 An employee on a seniority list who can show proof of death of spouse, child, fa<strong>the</strong>r,<br />
mo<strong>the</strong>r, bro<strong>the</strong>r, sister, but because of distance or any o<strong>the</strong>r reason is unable to attend <strong>the</strong><br />
funeral, shall be granted three (3) days’ leave of absence with pay. Written proof of<br />
death may be requested.<br />
28.06 On application in writing to his immediate supervisor at least twenty-four (24) hours in<br />
advance, <strong>the</strong> Human Resources Representative may approve leave of absence not to<br />
exceed four (4) hours:<br />
(a)<br />
With pay<br />
(i)<br />
(ii)<br />
for an employee to attend <strong>the</strong> funeral of a close friend.<br />
for two (2) of <strong>the</strong> Union Executive to attend <strong>the</strong> funeral of a present or<br />
retired employee.<br />
(b)<br />
Without pay for Union Executives in excess of two (2) to attend <strong>the</strong> funeral of<br />
a present or retired employee.
