Wings 09 SANTA MARGARITA CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL 20th Anniversary Celebration By Samantha Toth ’09 On October 14, 2007, more than 500 members of the SMCHS community arrived at Santa Margarita Catholic High School to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The main attraction of the event was Bishop Brown’s blessing of the recently completed aquatic facility featuring a 50-meter Olympic size swimming pool. The center contains a 50-meter Olympic pool, 400 permanent bleacher seats, bathroom and showering facilities, a scoreboard, two diving boards, an advanced team room (equipped with sophisticated video/audio systems), and a poolside concession stand. The new outdoor pool is the most advanced high school swimming venue in Southern California. Swim coach Ron Blanc comments, “We used to have to use the Saddleback College pool for our practices and meets. It is much easier on the swimmers to have a pool right here on the premises.” During the blessing, Bishop Brown proclaimed, “May the waters of this pool always remind us of the bounty and goodness with which God provides for His people.” HAPPENINGS 12
