Other
comments
Various comments received from
the Council’s Access Officer, in
relation to Sustainability
Communities in a broader sense.
Policies should not be too inflexible
in terms of technology solutions
EA commented on need for land
contamination policies, referencing
GP3, CLR11 and Council’s
contaminated land policies
Sustainability comments addressed in other
sections of the DM policies document, where
relevant. Chapter title altered to avoid
confusion between sustainable communities
and environmental sustainability.
The policies do not prescribe particular
technologies, except for DEN given that this
is a very cost-effective means to reduce
Carbon Dioxide emissions
Contaminated land is addressed in the
Proposed Submission document
Housing
Option 11
Housing
Space
standards
GLA support for housing space
standards
Some objections from developers
(including Registered Providers)
about minimum space standards
and perceived impacts on
affordability and viability. Some
comments that standards should
be applied flexibly.
LBI Access Officers commented
about detailed accessibility
considerations, that should be
addressed
English Heritage state that space
standards should be considered in
the context of heritage issues.
Housing space standards were included in
the Direction of Travel document. The impact
on viability and affordability was considered
by the GLA. Subsequently housing space
standards have been adopted within the
London Plan and therefore any issues of
affordability and viability will be limited by the
London-wide impact of the policy.
Policies for the Direction of Travel document
were drafted in partnership with LBI Access
Officers.
Heritage assets are addressed in the
Direction of Travel document.
Option 12
GLA support private outdoor space
provision
General support for private outdoor
space and balconies; however,
some developers objected to strict
standards and were concerned with
potential impacts on viability
The space standards evidence base includes
consideration of impact on viability.
The space standards are intentded to provide
a good quality of life for all.
