COURSE CONTENT<br />
Through an applied approach this module<br />
develops the learners understanding <strong>of</strong><br />
the theory and practice <strong>of</strong> visual design. It<br />
encourages learners to adopt a structured<br />
approach to the identification, analysis and<br />
resolution <strong>of</strong> visual design problems.<br />
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?<br />
This module is a follow on from the<br />
earlier module in Visual Language. It will<br />
be suitable <strong>of</strong> anybody who wishes to<br />
enhance their design skills with a view to<br />
applying them to digital media projects<br />
and asset creation.<br />
ECTS Credits in Award: 5<br />
Minimum entry requirements:<br />
Applicants must have a pass in five<br />
subjects (ordinary level) in the Leaving<br />
Certificate, to include Mathematics<br />
and English or Irish, or an equivalent<br />
qualification. Leaving Certificate<br />
Mathematics at Foundation Level at<br />
grade B2 or higher is acceptable for<br />
this programme.<br />
The minimum entry requirements for<br />
graduates <strong>of</strong> FETAC level 5 or 6 awards<br />
is any full award.<br />
Mature applicants (i.e. those who are<br />
aged 23 years or more on January 1st<br />
in the year <strong>of</strong> entry) applying for the<br />
first level <strong>of</strong> programmes are exempt<br />
from this requirement.<br />

requirements should contact the<br />

Schedule: Tuesday 6.30pm – 9.30pm<br />
Fee: €850<br />
Duration: 1 semester February<br />
to May 2010<br />
With the skills acquired in this module,<br />
the learner will be able to:<br />
• Interpret and respond to a structured<br />
design brief.<br />
• Analyse and evaluate screen based<br />
designs and resources such as<br />
icons, menus, images and type using<br />
appropriate methodologies and<br />
terminology.<br />
• Interpret a design brief and evaluate<br />
design projects in terms <strong>of</strong> their design<br />
methods, processes and outcome.<br />
• Select and apply appropriate visual<br />
design methods and tools to the<br />
creation <strong>of</strong> media resources and<br />
products.<br />
• Develop an effective design process<br />
and management plan in response to<br />
specific design requirements.<br />
• Resolve design challenges through<br />
the considered application <strong>of</strong><br />
appropriate practical, technical and<br />
creative competencies and skills.<br />
