A UNIQUE DELIVERY METHOD<br />

The innovative feature <strong>of</strong> this course<br />

is that it will be delivered using a<br />

blended learning approach consisting<br />

<strong>of</strong> workshops, on-line and self study<br />

materials. The aim is to deliver the<br />

programme in a way that accommodates<br />

participants work and other time<br />

constraints. All students are expected to<br />

have access to a PC and the internet and<br />

have a high level <strong>of</strong> computer literacy.<br />

COURSE AIM<br />

The MSc in Computing course is designed<br />

to <strong>of</strong>fer a pathway to computing science<br />

through modules relevant to the IT<br />

industry. This is an area in Ireland that<br />

has a constant need for people with<br />

advanced computing skills, particularly<br />

at the postgraduate level. The emphasis<br />

placed by the MSc in Computing<br />

programme is on a theoretical and<br />

practical approach in a modern working<br />

environment with the latest technology<br />

and techniques necessary for the<br />

cultivation <strong>of</strong> advanced computing skills.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> our most important course aims<br />

is the development <strong>of</strong> personal initiative,<br />

problem ownership, analytical problem<br />

solving and research skills in a computing<br />

science environment. This is incorporated<br />

in the teaching and continuous<br />

assessment methodology <strong>of</strong> the course.<br />

This course aims to:<br />

1. Provide the students with the skills<br />

mastery, competences and knowledge<br />

to undertake research in advanced<br />

technical domains.<br />

2. Produce MSc in Computing degree<br />

holders with comprehensive<br />

knowledge, skills mastery and<br />

attitudes appropriate for careers in<br />

computing and information technology<br />

in a rapidly evolving market place.<br />

3. Develop the students’ powers <strong>of</strong><br />

critical analysis and their ability to<br />

tackle technical and enterpriserelated<br />

problems and issues in a<br />

coherent and logical manner.<br />

4. Give students the theoretical<br />

foundations they will need for<br />

continuing studies at PhD level, in ITB<br />

or elsewhere.<br />

WHO SHOULD APPLY FOR THE MSc<br />

IN COMPUTING DEGREE?<br />

The MSc in Computing programme is <strong>of</strong><br />

particular value to holders <strong>of</strong> a primary<br />

degree in computing, IT, or equivalent,<br />

working as IT pr<strong>of</strong>essionals at the level<br />

<strong>of</strong> the enterprise or as IT pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
