Minimum entry requirements:<br />

Applicants must have a pass in five<br />

subjects (ordinary level) in the Leaving<br />

Certificate, to include Mathematics<br />

and English or Irish, or an equivalent<br />

qualification. Leaving Certificate<br />

Mathematics at Foundation Level at<br />

grade B2 or higher is acceptable for<br />

this programme. The minimum entry<br />

requirements for graduates <strong>of</strong> FETAC<br />

level 5 or 6 awards is any full award.<br />

Mature applicants (i.e. those who are<br />

aged 23 years or more on January 1st<br />

in the year <strong>of</strong> entry) applying for the<br />

first level <strong>of</strong> programmes are exempt<br />

from this requirement. Applicants<br />

applying for this course must be in fulltime<br />

employment in a recognised social<br />

care setting for more than two years.<br />

Each applicant must provide a letter<br />

<strong>of</strong> recommendation and support from<br />

their employer.<br />

Schedule:<br />

Year 1: Two days per week<br />

Year 2: Two days per week<br />

Year 3: Two days per week<br />

In addition to fee subsidy, delivery is<br />

being reviewed and it may be possible<br />

to <strong>of</strong>fer this programme on a one day<br />

Fee: €3,700 per year<br />

Duration: 3 years part-time<br />

(6 semesters)<br />

The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts in Applied Social<br />

Studies in Social Care will be <strong>of</strong>fered to<br />

mainly mature adults, who are currently<br />

employed in the social care industry and<br />

require further qualifications.<br />

The entry route into the programme is via<br />

employers and applicants must be in fulltime<br />

employment throughout their course<br />

<strong>of</strong> study.<br />

Employment must be in an organisation<br />

<strong>of</strong>fering services through or on behalf <strong>of</strong><br />

statutory bodies.
