OVERVIEW<br />

This Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Business degree<br />

programme builds on knowledge and<br />

competencies developed at the higher<br />

certificate (NFQ level 6). Knowledge,<br />

skills and competencies across a wide<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> areas will be further developed<br />

focusing on the roles and functions <strong>of</strong><br />

business administrators and managers.<br />

The ordinary degree programme includes<br />

organisational psychology, operations<br />

management, finance, marketing and<br />

enterprise development. Graduates <strong>of</strong> this<br />

programme will have further developed<br />

the ability to integrate concepts into<br />

working and pr<strong>of</strong>essional environments<br />

and will develop diagnostic and creative<br />

skills allowing them to operate at<br />

advanced levels in organisations.<br />

Emphasis will be placed on the exercise<br />

<strong>of</strong> judgement in planning, design,<br />

technical and/or supervisory functions at<br />

the operations level <strong>of</strong> the organisation.<br />

COURSE AIM<br />

This course was designed as a logical<br />

step in the academic development <strong>of</strong><br />

those who wish to pursue a career in<br />

business. Specifically those students who<br />

have completed or are completing the<br />

Higher Certificate in Business (NFQ level<br />

6) at ITB or an equivalent qualification are<br />

directed to this programme to enhance<br />

and further develop their personal,<br />

academic and pr<strong>of</strong>essional development.<br />

COURSE SCHEDULE<br />

The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Business programme is<br />

one academic year in length commencing<br />

in September and running until the<br />

following May. ITB operates a fully<br />

semesterised system with two semesters<br />

<strong>of</strong> equal length. Students will study 12<br />

modules divided into 6 modules per<br />

semester. All students will attend for two<br />

nights per week (Tuesday and Thursday,<br />

6.00pm – 10.00pm). Four modules will<br />

be delivered on these evenings with a<br />

fifth subject being <strong>of</strong>fered through self<br />

directed and blended learning. This<br />

subject will be supported by online<br />

material and face to face tutorials. A sixth<br />

subject will be delivered on alternate<br />

Saturday mornings.<br />

Please note: final examinations are held<br />

during the day.<br />

PROGRESSION<br />

On successful completion <strong>of</strong> the Bachelor<br />

<strong>of</strong> Business (NFQ level 7), students are<br />

eligible to progress on to the Bachelor <strong>of</strong><br />

Business (Honours) (NFQ Level 8).<br />
