Bariatric Surgery
Friday, 10 June 2011 Start 4:00pm Duration: 25mins Baytrust Forum
Obesity is a common problem that now seems to have very effective surgical treatments available, but
exactly how these work, and who may be appropriate for surgery is sometimes less clear to referrers.
Grant Beban and Richard Babor are both Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeons in Auckland, working both
in public hospitals and in the private sector. They will describe the different operations available, and
illustrate the sorts of outcomes that people get, warts and all, with the use of case studies.
Questions and problems from participants are encouraged with the goal of facilitating worthwhile
discussion.
