BTT121 Advanced Tour Planning<br />

This course continues the study of tour planning, with emphasis<br />
on the principles of tour design and management. Topics include<br />
selecting escorted tours, planning customized independent tours,<br />
developing and administering group tour programs, and applying<br />
basic sales, marketing and finance principles to the retail travel<br />
environment. Discussions will include the major attractions of destinations<br />
in South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific.<br />

BTT202 World Travel and Tourism Destinations<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course is designed to provide students with knowledge of the<br />
world’s most visited destinations while offering them a comprehensive<br />
introduction to the countries of the world. Students will<br />
learn to use electronic and print tourism destination research<br />
sources. Emphasis is placed on both cultural and natural tourist<br />
attractions.<br />

BTT203 Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Technology<br />
Systems<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course is designed to introduce students to various hospitality<br />
information systems. Students will gain basic foundation skills<br />
of an airline reservation computer system, a hotel front office<br />
system and a restaurant point of sale system. Students will also use<br />
web-based and Internet technology to understand the current role<br />
of technology in the hospitality industry.<br />

BTT205 Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Law<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course examines business law concepts and principles as they<br />
pertain to the travel, tourism and hospitality industry. General<br />
topics include the nature of American law and the legal system,<br />
negligence law and contract law. Industry-specific topics include<br />
the rights and responsibilities of airlines and other transportation<br />
providers, lodging facilities, restaurants, patrons and travel agents.<br />
Employment law and government regulation of the industry are<br />
also discussed.<br />

BTT212 Customer Service and Sales<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course will provide students with the fundamental concepts<br />
of hospitality customer service and sales. Emphasis is placed on<br />
selling skills and customer service techniques that enhance sales<br />
and help to create a loyal customer following. Students will focus<br />
on how to manage a hospitality organization in such a way that<br />
the guest’s expectations of quality and value are met and exceeded.<br />

BTT221 Travel Agency Operations and Management<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course examines the roles of travel consultants and managers<br />
in the retail travel environment. Travel services, such as air and<br />
land transportation, cruises, accommodations and tours are<br />
described, as well as policies and procedures associated with their<br />
sale. Managerial functions, such as marketing, organizational<br />
design, human resources, accounting and finance, legal and<br />
regulatory compliance and risk management of planned and<br />
existing agencies are discussed.<br />

BTT222 Special Interest Tourism<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course will focus on the development of themed travel and<br />
tourism programs appealing to those with special interests. Types<br />
of specialty travel to be discussed include small-ship cruise travel,<br />
as well as adventure, space, gastronomic, sport and volunteer<br />
tourism. Environmental sustainability in tourism development will<br />
constitute an underlying theme throughout the course. Students<br />
will be required to design a special interest tour and create<br />
promotional materials for it.<br />

BTT223 Meeting and Event Planning<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course will introduce students to the basic elements of meeting,<br />
convention and event planning. Students will learn how to<br />
generate business through sales and providing service to the group<br />
and convention industry. Students will focus on the overall management<br />
of events.<br />

BTT224 Destination Tourism Management<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course is designed to explore the role of destination management<br />
organizations (DMOs) and how they can function effectively.<br />
Emphasis is placed on stimulating economic development<br />
in cities, states and nations. Students are introduced to the elements<br />
that create a positive image for a tourism destination.<br />

BTT231 Hotel and Lodging Operations and Management<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course is an examination of the operations and management<br />
of hotels and other lodging properties such as time shares and vacation<br />
resorts. The roles of departments such as the front office,<br />
housekeeping, marketing and sales, human resources, food and beverage<br />
and loss prevention and security are discussed, as well as the<br />
role of the general manager. The concepts of yield management,<br />
management contracts and franchise agreements are highlighted.<br />
