Cooperative Education Department<br />

CEP121 Cooperative Education: Fundamentals of<br />

Professional Advancement<br />

3 credits; 3 hours<br />

This introductory Cooperative Education course will help students<br />

evaluate career and educational plans, develop professional literacy,<br />

and synthesize connections between coursework and professional<br />

opportunities. Theories of experiential learning and an<br />

overview of career planning will be introduced. Web-based activities,<br />

online reading and writing assignments and a pre-internship<br />

project will culminate in the development of a professional ePortfolio.<br />

This course is a prerequisite for internship placement for students<br />

who are in a First Year Academy.<br />

Pre- or Corequisites: For All Academies: CSE099, ESL099<br />

For Technology Academy: BTC100 or MAC101<br />

For Business Academy: BTM101<br />

For Liberal Arts or Allied Health Academy: SSS100 or SSY101<br />

CEP151 Cooperative Education: Part-Time Internship<br />

2 credits; 1 seminar hour; 15-20 internship work hours<br />

This internship provides students with an experience-based<br />

learning opportunity to: explore or confirm career interests and<br />

plans; apply classroom learning to real work situations; and practice<br />

and strengthen interpersonal and technical skills. A minimum<br />

of 15-20 hours per week at the internship site is required during<br />

the Co-op cycle. A concurrent seminar provides a framework for<br />

students to analyze their internship experience.<br />

Prerequisites: CEP100 or CEP121 (for students in a First Year<br />

Academy) and MAT096*<br />

CEP152 Cooperative Education: Part-Time Internship<br />

2 credits; 1 seminar hour; 15-20 internship work hours<br />

This elective internship provides students with an experiencebased<br />

learning opportunity to: explore or confirm career interest<br />

and plans; apply classroom leaning to real work situations; and<br />

practice and strengthen interpersonal and technical skills. 15-20<br />

hours per week at the internship site is required during the Co-op<br />

cycle. A concurrent seminar provides a framework for students to<br />

analyze their internship experience.<br />

Prerequisite: CEP 201*<br />

CEP175 Cooperative Education: Bilingual Education<br />

Internship I<br />

2 credits; 2 hours<br />

This is an introductory internship experience in a bilingual classroom<br />

setting. Students will have the opportunity to: explore the<br />

field of education as a profession; integrate classroom theory with<br />

internship experience; and apply and strengthen interpersonal,<br />

technological, and critical thinking skills, while assisting students<br />

with diverse needs. A minimum of eighty hours at the internship<br />

site is required. A concurrent seminar provides a framework for<br />

analyzing and evaluating students’ experience.<br />

CEP201 Cooperative Education Internship<br />

3 credits; 1 seminar hour; 25-40 internship work hours<br />

The internship provides students with an experienced-based learning<br />

opportunity to explore or confirm career interests and plans;<br />

apply classroom learning to real world settings; and practice and<br />

strengthen core competencies. During the Co-op cycle, the number<br />

of hours required is set by the internship site, but a minimum of<br />

15 hours a week is required. The internship is accompanied by a<br />

concurrent seminar which provides students a framework for analyzing<br />

and evaluating their internship experiences.<br />

Prerequisites: CEP121, CSE099, ENA/ENG/ESA099/ENC101,<br />

MAT096, Students must have completed all basic skills and at least<br />

24 credits. Students must also have at least a 2.0 cumulative G.P.A.<br />

and permission from Cooperative Education Faculty Advisor.<br />

CEP202 Cooperative Education: Full-Time Internship<br />

3 credits; 1 seminar hour; 25-40 internship work hours<br />

This elective internship provides students with an experiencebased<br />

learning opportunity to: explore or confirm career interests<br />

and plans; apply classroom learning to real work situations; and<br />

practice and strengthen interpersonal and technical skills. 25-40<br />

hours per week at the internship site is required during the Co-op<br />

cycle. The internship is accompanied by a concurrent seminar that<br />

provides a framework for students to analyze their internship<br />

experience.<br />

Prerequisite: CEP201*<br />

* Students are required to have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade<br />

point average the semester prior to each internship semester and<br />

have completed the appropriate introductory and/or other prerequisite<br />

courses in their major.<br />

Each of these courses (except Fundamentals of Professional<br />

Advancement and Gateway to the Workplace) includes both the<br />

Internship and the Internship Seminar. When registering, students<br />

must also register for the appropriate seminar code as specified<br />

by their Co-op Faculty Advisor.<br />

Students in the following specialized curricular areas should<br />

check their departmental course descriptions for the appropriate<br />

internship and seminar codes: Human Services, Occupational<br />

Therapy Assistant, Dietetic Technician, Physical Therapist Assistant<br />

Veterinary Technology.<br />

The Major Seminars offered by the Cooperative Education<br />

Department are as follows:<br />

CEP211 Co-op-Ed: Secondary Education Internship II<br />

0 credits; 2 seminar hours; 80 total internship hours<br />

Secondary-level internship experience in a secondary education<br />

classroom setting. Students will observe and reflect on the field of<br />

secondary education as a profession, connect language/literacy<br />

theories and practices with internship experiences; and apply and<br />

strengthen core competencies, while assisting students with diverse<br />

needs. A minimum of eighty hours at the internship site is<br />

required. A required concurrent seminar provides a framework for<br />

analyzing and evaluating students’ experiences.<br />

Prerequisites: ELN120, CEP111, CPA011, ENC/ENG101<br />

Corequisites: ELE204, CEP211, and CPB011<br />
