HUN196 Film and New York City<br />

3 credits; 4 hours<br />

This course analyzes the various cultural, historical, ethnic, class,<br />

and artistic dimensions of New York in feature films such as Musketeers<br />

of Pig Alley, Hester Street and Do the Right Thing, as well<br />

as in selected documentary and experimental films. The course<br />

also situates New York City within the corporate production and<br />

exhibition histories of American film. Particular attention is given<br />

to films produced in New York over the last two decades and the<br />

images of the city they project.<br />

Prerequisite: ENC/ENG101<br />

This is a Writing Intensive course.<br />

HUN245 The New York Theatre Experience<br />

3 credits; 4 hours<br />

(3 lectures, 1 lab-out-of-class theatre experiences)<br />

This course involves the study of current professional and semiprofessional<br />

theatre in New York City. Students will be required<br />

to attend a series of Broadway, Off Broadway, and Off Off Broadway<br />

plays in order to compare their content, underlying aesthetic<br />

concepts and production techniques. (Plays may be seen on weekday<br />

evenings or weekend/weekday matinees.) Students should<br />

expect to pay for theatre tickets, tours, lectures, and workshops<br />

with theatre professionals and post-performance discussions.<br />

Prerequisite: CSE099, ENA/ENG/ESA099/ENC101<br />

This is a Writing Intensive course.<br />

LIB200 Humanism, Science and Technology<br />

3 credits; 3 hours<br />

The Liberal Arts Seminar explores aspects of the relationship<br />

between humanism, science and technology. Students apply<br />

knowledge and critical strategies developed in other courses to<br />

significant contemporary and historical issues. The Seminar draws<br />

on texts from the Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Sciences<br />

as students explore ways developments in science and technology<br />

contribute to abuses as well as advances in civilizations. Students<br />

also reflect on the responsibilities of citizenship in a diverse<br />

society. As a capstone course, this seminar is designated writingintensive.<br />

Prerequisite: MAT096, ENG102, ENG103, and 33 credits<br />

Note: ENG103 is waived for Fine Arts (511) majors only<br />

LIB110 Integrating Seminar: Liberal Arts Cluster<br />

1 credit: 1 hour<br />

This one-hour integrating seminar will be used to tie together the<br />

content material of the Liberal Arts Cluster. Class time will be<br />

spent exploring connections and thematic links introduced in the<br />

cluster classes. Instructional methods may include small group<br />

work, discussion, media presentations, field trips, and guest speakers.<br />

Information regarding the introductory clusters may be found<br />

in the Liberal Arts Advisement Handbook.<br />

Prerequisite: CSE099, ENA/ENG/ESA099/ENC101, and prerequisites<br />

of courses in cluster to which LIB110 is assigned.<br />

Note: Not required for students who have passed<br />

3 credits; 3 hours<br />

This course is an introduction to the nature and use of information<br />

and information sources for study and problem-solving. Students<br />

will identify information needs and pose viable research<br />

questions; plan research strategies; access materials online and in<br />

person, in libraries and on the Internet; evaluate material found;<br />

and address ethical, legal, and socio-economic issues of the information<br />

age.<br />

Prerequisite: CSE099, ENA/ENG/ESA099/ENC101<br />

Pre- or Corequisite: MAT096<br />

LRC103 Internet Research Strategies<br />

1 credit; 1 hour<br />

In this course, students will develop an understanding of Internet<br />

concepts and terminology and acquire strategies for effectively<br />

searching appropriate Internet resources to support the writing of<br />
