This is an introductory course designed to acquaint the student<br />
with the role of business in our economy, the forms of organization,<br />
and the various business functions such as management, personnel,<br />
marketing and finance. Career opportunities in the<br />
business world are also explored. This course should be taken<br />
prior to any other business courses.<br />

BTM102 Principles of Finance<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course is a study of the monetary and credit systems of our<br />
economy and related policies and problems. In addition, the course<br />
addresses itself to the following: 1) commercial and noncommercial<br />
banking institutions and operations; 2) money and banking in<br />
relation to prices, economic growth, and international events.<br />

BTM103 Principles of Management<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course is an analysis of the role of the manager and functions<br />
of management in an enterprise. Consideration is given to the<br />
interlocking nature of these functions and the principles, which<br />
are the basis for the practice of management. Attention is given to<br />
the impact of the external environment on the development of the<br />
managerial role and on managerial practice.<br />

BTM104 Principles of Marketing<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course explores the vital role of marketing in our economy.<br />
The factors of consumer behavior and motivation are covered to<br />
provide an understanding of market planning. The system of distribution<br />
of goods from producer to consumer is discussed by<br />
relating theory to actual case histories.<br />

BTM108 Principles of Real Estate<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course covers the social and economic impact of real estate,<br />
the nature and instruments of property rights, various types and<br />
aspects of property ownership, real estate brokerage operations<br />
and discussion of urban planning needs. Successful completion of<br />
the course material is required to take the New York State licensing<br />
examination. Students must obtain broker sponsorship in<br />
order to take the New York State licensing examination for Real<br />
Estate Salesperson.<br />

BTM110 Business Law I<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course begins by introducing students to some basic aspects<br />
of the American legal system, including the courts, tort law and<br />
criminal law. It proceeds to an in-depth exploration of the law of<br />
contracts from their formation to their enforceability in court.<br />
Other topics include employment law, bankruptcy law and legal<br />
problems posed by the computerization of society.<br />

BTM111 Business Law II<br />

This course introduces the student to the important areas of products<br />
liability, consumer law, secured transactions, partnerships,<br />
corporations, agencies and bailments.<br />

BTM115 Basics of Advertising<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course gives a broad overview of advertising, its roles in<br />
marketing, and as a motivational force in society. The nature of<br />
media and their creative and productive functions are discussed as<br />
they are related to advertising programs.<br />

BTM116 Introduction to E-Business<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course will provide a basic understanding of the tools, skills,<br />
business concepts, strategic opportunities and social issues that<br />
surround the emergence of electronic commerce on the Internet.<br />
Current practices and opportunities in electronic payments,<br />
electronic retailing, electronic distribution and electronic collaboration<br />
are discussed. Some of the problems surrounding electronic<br />
commerce such as security, intellectual property rights, acceptable<br />
use policies and legal liabilities are included.<br />

BTM120 Office and Personnel Management<br />
3 credits; 3 hours<br />
This course, designed for Administrative Assistant majors, is an<br />
introduction to the principles and practices of office management<br />
and administration. It will include such topics as the office<br />
environment, employee/employer relations, job analysis, and evaluation,<br />
fundamentals of motivation, the function of procedures<br />
and labor relations and grievances.<br />
