Executive summary<br />

The preliminary concept design for the WestConnex <strong>M4</strong> <strong>East</strong> project was announced on 28 November 2013<br />

and displayed for comment until 17 February 2014. A range of communication and consultation activities<br />

were carried out during this period to inform the community about the concept design and to seek feedback.<br />

Objectives<br />

The objectives of the communication and consultation activities were to:<br />

Raise awareness - of the <strong>M4</strong> <strong>East</strong> concept design and the WestConnex project.<br />

Engage with key stakeholders and affected local communities - early in the planning process, so issues<br />

raised can help refine the concept design and inform the environmental impact statement (EIS)<br />

Allow face to face dialogue - between community members and the WestConnex project team (including<br />

a range of specialists)<br />

Engage early with property owners - regarding the potential need for property acquisition for the<br />

construction and operation of the <strong>M4</strong> <strong>East</strong>.<br />

Delivery of the <strong>M4</strong> <strong>East</strong> concept design community update to more than 105,000 residences and<br />

businesses<br />

11 newspaper advertisements to promote the concept display and invite feedback<br />

More than 85 individual meetings regarding property acquisition and discussions with nearby owners<br />

More than 15 stakeholder meetings with industry, government, businesses and local service providers<br />

More than 600 face to face discussions with team members at<br />

seven community information sessions<br />

<strong>Feedback</strong><br />

<strong>Feedback</strong> on the <strong>M4</strong> <strong>East</strong> concept design was received via:<br />

Email – more than 390 received<br />

‘Have your Say’ online form – more than 100 received<br />

Phone calls – more than 320 calls received<br />

Letters – more than 640 letters received of which about 600<br />

were form letters<br />

Face to face discussions with project team members at<br />

community information sessions.<br />
