• 1775 Apr 01 was aga<strong>in</strong> partitioned, this time giv<strong>in</strong>g up 60 sq mi to Charlotte <strong>County</strong>, who then exchanged this l<strong>and</strong> with a<br />
like parcel <strong>in</strong> Cumberl<strong>and</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />
• 1777 Jan 15 was aga<strong>in</strong> partitioned, this time on account of the <strong>in</strong>dependence of Vermont from <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong>, reduc<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>Albany</strong> <strong>County</strong> by an additional 300 sq mi.<br />
• 1871 Jun 26 Benn<strong>in</strong>gton <strong>County</strong>, VT, attempted to annex a portion of <strong>Albany</strong> <strong>County</strong> that today <strong>in</strong>cludes portions of<br />
Wash<strong>in</strong>gton <strong>and</strong> Rensselaer counties to form what they called "The West Union". The fledgl<strong>in</strong>g US – under the Articles of<br />
Confederation – arbitrated annexation, <strong>and</strong> condemned it, result<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Vermont ceas<strong>in</strong>g the annexation on 23 Feb 1782.<br />
• 1786 Apr 04 Columbia <strong>County</strong> was created from 650 square miles of <strong>Albany</strong> <strong>County</strong> l<strong>and</strong>.<br />
• 1788 Mar 07 <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong>, refus<strong>in</strong>g to recognize the <strong>in</strong>dependence of Vermont, <strong>and</strong> the attendant elim<strong>in</strong>ation of<br />
Cumberl<strong>and</strong> <strong>County</strong>, attempted to adjust the l<strong>in</strong>e that separated Cumberl<strong>and</strong> from <strong>Albany</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>in</strong> present-day Vermont,<br />
but to no effect.<br />
• 1791 Feb 07 was partitioned aga<strong>in</strong>, this time to form Rensselaer <strong>and</strong> Saratoga counties. Rensselaer received 660 square<br />
miles, while Saratoga received 850 square miles. Also the town of Cambridge was transferred to Wash<strong>in</strong>gton <strong>County</strong>. A<br />
total of 1,680 sq mi changed h<strong>and</strong>s.<br />
• 1795 Jun 01 was once aga<strong>in</strong> partitioned, this time los<strong>in</strong>g 460 sq mi to Schoharie <strong>County</strong>.<br />
• 1798 Apr 05 another partition took place, with 90 sq mi pass<strong>in</strong>g to Ulster <strong>County</strong>.<br />
• 1800 Mar 25 once aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>Albany</strong> <strong>County</strong> was partitioned, with 360 sq mi be<strong>in</strong>g used to create Greene <strong>County</strong>.<br />
• 1801 Apr 03 all <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong> counties were redef<strong>in</strong>ed, with <strong>Albany</strong> <strong>County</strong> ga<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g 10 sq mi.<br />
• 1808 Mar 03 <strong>Albany</strong> <strong>County</strong> turned Havre Isl<strong>and</strong> over to Saratoga <strong>County</strong>, with no resultant loss <strong>in</strong> l<strong>and</strong>.<br />
• 1809 Mar 07 Schenectady <strong>County</strong> was created from 230 sq mi of <strong>Albany</strong> <strong>County</strong> l<strong>and</strong>. The result was the production of<br />
