Colonel James Sackett, son of John Sackett <strong>and</strong> Prudence Atherton, was born on 6 June 1770. 1 He died <strong>in</strong> Van Levens Corners,<br />
<strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong>, <strong>in</strong> about 1821. He married ___ Chittendon.<br />
James Sackett served as a militiaman for thirty years, becom<strong>in</strong>g Colonel of the 25th Regiment, <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong> State Infantry, <strong>in</strong> 1816.<br />
Colonel James Sackett ... was an active bus<strong>in</strong>ess man, a prom<strong>in</strong>ent member of the Masonic fraternity, <strong>and</strong> an enthusiastic<br />
militiaman. He represented his town for several years <strong>in</strong> the <strong>County</strong> Board of Supervisors, <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> 1818 was a member of the State<br />
Assembly. In the militia he served with credit for full thirty years, fill<strong>in</strong>g every position from private to regimental comm<strong>and</strong>er. His<br />
commissions from Ensign to Colonel are dated as follows:<br />
