order to stay current with technological advance of GIS programs.<br />

2. Develop long-term support and involvement of<br />

<strong>Watershed</strong> residents through the leadership of CAC and<br />

<strong>Watershed</strong> <strong>Project</strong> Coordinator on watershed planning<br />

and management activities.<br />

Strategy:<br />

a. Provide special topic workshops and community events to keep citizens involved.<br />

Discussion: Expand River Cleanup to become a <strong>Watershed</strong> festival.<br />

Canoe race, recognition of special pollution prevention efforts, kids'<br />

environmental contests, exhibits, and entertainment can be held<br />

afternoon of morning cleanup. Take traveling exhibit to other<br />

festivals and fairs in the County. Schedule speaking engagements to<br />

civic and community organizations. Participate in Coastal Cleanup<br />

and Coast Week activities.<br />

Progress: Increased efforts for advertising events like the River<br />

Cleanup are planned. In May 2001, prizes donated by local business<br />

and individual sponsors were given to participants in various<br />

categories. A kayak was raffled to all registered participants. The<br />

practice of raffling at least one large prize donated by a sponsor(s)<br />

will be continued. Informal exhibits at which BMP and pollution<br />

control literature was provided were set up at both the 2001 River<br />

Cleanup and Pond Day at a local business.<br />

b. Actively solicit public input in all components of management plan.<br />

Discussion: Continue to hold public forums in <strong>Watershed</strong><br />

communities and neighborhoods. Circulate draft <strong>Watershed</strong><br />

<strong>Management</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> and final <strong>Management</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> to interested citizens,<br />

provide ample comment period and public hearings to solicit input.<br />

Provide annual review of progress on management plan<br />

Implementation, and update management plan at least. every five<br />

years.<br />

Schedule: Fourth quarter 2001<br />

Progress: The revised management plan dated June 2001 is scheduled<br />

for final release on or about October 2001. An event of as yet<br />

undetermined nature is planned to celebrate the release of the revised<br />

<strong>Weeks</strong> <strong>Bay</strong> <strong>Watershed</strong> <strong>Management</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>
