Overview<br />

You can configure up to eight <strong>AT</strong>-3600 Series hubs in a rackmount chassis.<br />

When fully populated with <strong>AT</strong>-3624T and <strong>AT</strong>-<strong>3624TR</strong> hubs, the chassis<br />

creates a single department concentrator with up to 200 ports (8 modules<br />

with 24 network ports each, plus 8 AUI ports).<br />

Figure 2 shows a sample department concentrator using an 8-slot chassis.<br />

You can mount any combination of the following hub models in the same<br />

department concentrator chassis: <strong>AT</strong>-3606F; <strong>AT</strong>-3606F/SMA; <strong>AT</strong>-3606F/<br />

ST, SC, SM; <strong>AT</strong>-3608; <strong>AT</strong>-3612T; <strong>AT</strong>-3612TR; <strong>AT</strong>-3624T; <strong>AT</strong>-<strong>3624TR</strong>;<br />

<strong>AT</strong>-3624TS; and <strong>AT</strong>-<strong>3624TR</strong>S.<br />

Network management software will view the concentrator as a single<br />

logical device. In this configuration the modules perform different<br />

functions:<br />

The top module becomes the Master. It downloads software to, and<br />

serves as, the reporting unit for other units in the concentrator. It<br />

also controls management functions.<br />

The module in the slot directly below the Master becomes the<br />

Backup. It assumes management functions if the Master fails.<br />

All other modules function as Slaves. They report management<br />

information to the Master but do not perform any control functions.<br />

Each chassis must contain at least one manageable hub module to enable<br />

network management. This module must occupy the uppermost slot in the<br />

chassis. Because the uppermost manageable hub performs all<br />

management reporting activities, it is referred to as the Master. The other<br />

<strong>AT</strong>-3600 modules in the same chassis (except any Backup module that<br />

may be installed) are called Slaves.<br />
