District 6440 Histories 2005<br />
2003 - Hosted exchange student from Sweden. Donated $15,000 to Centennial Park project in<br />
downtown Wheaton. Met 100% PolioPlus participation.<br />
2004 – Donated $5,000 and many man-hours to the Humanitarian Service Project.<br />
2005-<strong>2006</strong> — Donated $20,000 in scholarships, donated to Katrina relief fund; we built a playground<br />
for a local elementary school. Wheaton Rotary club is also creating and supporting a program to keep<br />
young girls out of prostitution in Thailand. We are working on our ongoing book drives to support local<br />
organizations work with literacy. Other programs include: food deliveries for local low-income families;<br />
Christmas gift donations and delivery for 50 children in our area; partnering with another club to help<br />
build a well in one of the poorest villages in Haiti. Finally, we are working with another club to provide<br />
clean, safe school floors for classrooms in Uganda, Africa. Our club received a service above self 05-06<br />
Presidential Citation from Rotary International for club excellence & achievement in club, community,<br />
vocational, and international service.<br />
Youth Exchange:<br />
1986 - Hosted student from South Africa; sponsored student to Philippines.<br />
1987 - Hosted student from Venezuela.<br />
1988 - Hosted short-term student from Brazil; sponsored short-term student to Italy.<br />
1989 - Sponsored short-term student to West Germany.<br />
1990 - Hosted student from Denmark.<br />
1996 – Hosted an exchange student from Germany, and sponsored an ambassadorial scholar from<br />
Wheaton to study in Switzerland.<br />
1998 – Hosted student from Japan.<br />
1999 – Hosted student from Peru and Mexico.<br />
2003 – Hosted exchange student from Sweden.<br />

1959-99 – Club Service:<br />
Includes fellowship events; such as, installation dinners, club picnics, children’s party at Thanksgiving,<br />
Christmas dinner, events at Ravinia Festival, baseball games, fishing trips, bowling tournaments, theatre<br />
parties, Calcutta fundraisers, publication of a Rotary Ann cook book, Octoberfest parties, host Group<br />
Study Exchange members, etc. Seek new members with diverse classifications, properly orient them in<br />
Rotary, and assign them to active committees.<br />
Encourage regular attendance at club meetings, coupled with make-ups at neighboring clubs, district<br />
events, club projects, and international meetings. Recognize those members who achieve perfect<br />
attendance.<br />
Participate in a major fundraising event to enable charitable distributions within the community, the<br />
Rotary Foundation, and other worthwhile organizations.<br />
Maintain an active public relations program to reach out within the community, advising Rotary<br />
activities, and encouraging participation in Rotary programs.<br />
