Extension, Membership and Retention efforts were strong in the District. With the Chartering of the<br />
Huntley Club, we grew to (71) clubs and approached a total membership of 3,000.<br />
Other world-class highlights of the year included: Awarding (10) major donor recognitions for a total of<br />
33; awarding at least (12) benefactors for a total of more than 100; awarding the first Bequest Society<br />
awards for a total of more than 10; awarding a George R. Means scholarship (Scotland); a successful<br />
Group Study Exchange with Poland; sponsoring five 1999-2000 Ambassadorial Scholars; hosting<br />
Ambassadorial Scholars from Taiwan, Japan, and Germany; hosting the fourth annual Link weekend in<br />
Evanston; thirty inbound and outbound students participating in the International Youth Exchange<br />
Program with (28) clubs sponsoring; organizing (2) new Interact clubs for a total of 25; reorganizing the<br />
Short Term Youth Exchange Program; organizing the “ Midwest Rotary Districts, Gift of Life<br />
Program;” 120 young leaders attending our RYLA weekend; endowment and implementation of the<br />
Blane National Immunization Program; Jack Blane selected as District 6440 representative to the<br />
Council on Legislation, 2001; submitting a Proposal to the Council on Legislation for a 5 th Avenue of<br />
Service; Literacy; awarding (224) Paul Harris <strong>Fellow</strong>s including sustaining members, with a potential of<br />
(400) new Paul Harris <strong>Fellow</strong>s providing more than $250,000 in Paul Harris credits to match annual<br />
foundation giving. (District 6440, PHF Credit Bank); earning- The Rotary 2000 District Conference<br />
Award; contributions totaling more than $180,000 from (70) clubs for our Polio Plus Partners in<br />
Districts 9100, 9110-9140, West Africa; meeting the Polio Plus Partners Matching Grant Challenge<br />
(same project). 100% of our (70) clubs contributed to the Polio Plus Partners Matching Grant for a total<br />
of more than $360,000; awarding all clubs (70) in the District the – Polio Plus Partners, 100% Club –<br />
patch.<br />
Meeting the Matching Grant Challenge (various projects) for a total of more than $590,000.<br />
Exceeding the $6 million mark in total, all time Rotary Foundation giving in the district; annual<br />
Foundation Giving of more than $293,000; total Foundation Giving to date, of more than $750,000;<br />
<strong>My</strong> hope is that every Governor following me will dedicate a major part of his or her year to continue to<br />
battle polio until the war has been won. Only time will tell. Do not forget the personal inspirational<br />
messages we have received from our Rotary World Leaders.<br />

<strong>Rotarians</strong> who follow you will be judged”.<br />
