District 6440 Histories 2005<br />
Rotary Club of Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Chartered June 29, 1992<br />
1993 – Participated in Lake in the Hills Air Expo, Eastview Elementary Career Days, and joint Newborn<br />
Smoke Detector Program with Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department. Helped repair a gazebo in<br />
the Riverfront Park in Algonquin and assisted with the GSE Team from Sweden. Began a scholarship<br />
program and established an Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Rotary Foundation. Provided assistance to<br />
flood victims of the flooding that occurred in July. Collected and distributed over $10,000.<br />
1993 and 1994 – Produced community calendar featuring the first through third graders artwork based<br />
on Rotary themes. Sent several youths to RYLA. Sent several youths to World Affairs Seminar in<br />
Whitewater, Wisconsin. 1992, 1993, & 1994 – Participated in PADS program, an organization that<br />
provides shelter to the homeless in the winter months in the communities of Algonquin-Lake in the Hills<br />
and McHenry County.<br />
1995 – 2005 - Annually, the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Rotary Club gives out several scholarships to<br />
local High School students: The Young Leader Scholarship an $8,000 award. The Rotary Youth<br />
Leadership Scholarships in the amount of $500. Since 2003: The Gordon Larsen scholarship a 4-year<br />
$1,500 per year scholarship awarded to a student who is pursuing an entrepreneurial career. In memory<br />
of Gordon Larsen Charter member.<br />
2005 - Our 10 th Annual Golf Outing was held on June 6, 2005 at the Whisper Creek Golf Club. This<br />
fundraiser makes the above-mentioned scholarships and many other charity events possible for our<br />
students and community members.<br />
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Rotary Club contributes annually to the community via these other fine<br />
events: Pancake Breakfast with Santa, the annual Paint-A-Thon, and Annual Fish Fry. We served 700<br />
people at no charge at the Pancake Breakfast with Santa.<br />
<strong>2006</strong> – January: Helped a community member in need with raffle to help pay their heating bill.<br />
Our 11 th Annual Golf outing will be held in June; the exact date and location is yet to be determined.<br />
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Rotary Club will contribute to Pancake Breakfast with Santa, the<br />
annual Paint-A-Thon, and the Annual Fish Fry.<br />
Youth Exchange:<br />
1993 – Hosted Jose Navarrette from Ecuador.<br />
1994 – Hosted Haley Starke from South Africa.<br />
1995 – Hosted Kate Stewart from Australia.<br />
Sponsoring two outbound students – one to Australia and one to Germany.<br />
2005 – Hosted Miho Ogura from Japan.<br />
Sponsored Kristie Cook to Germany.<br />

1969 – Purchased exerciser for Antioch High School.<br />
1970 – Erected Rotary signs in town.<br />
1974 – Developed Elgin Interact Club.<br />
