District 6440 Histories 2005<br />

1994-95 – Denise Graff Ponstein was president.<br />

Marble game began thanks to Tom Berthold - raised $2,500 for club the first time. Youth Exchange –<br />

Inbound Lene Bjerregaard, Denmark; outbound – Mike Laing, Carol Heider, Liz Lerner. Also hosted<br />

short-term exchange students. Committed $5,000 to Memorial Medical Center Foundation (over 5<br />

years). Joint community service project/4 th of July participation – Jim Campion. Successful Celebrity<br />

Night held at the Tapestry Restaurant - $1,700. Fireside at Semrows. Haunted House fundraiser at<br />

Berthold’s retail store in Elk Grove Village. Brought back original rule of only needing one meeting for<br />

proposing a new member. Delivered 410 families and over 200 seniors for CCH and Tag Days – raised<br />

$8,600. Pioneer Center kids and Rotary kids Christmas Party. Inducted new members Andy Hartlieb,<br />

Mike Morris, Tony Caravella, and Jack Davison. D.A.R.E. graduations and picnic. Art Action – Chuck<br />

Boe chair and committee raised $4,500. Vocational scholarships – gave away two $500 scholarships.<br />

Started immunization program with county and Rotary district – Lloyd Show. Had 4-Way Test<br />

billboard put up – Frank Gosser. First blood drive – Tom LaFontaine. Planting at City Park by Dream<br />

Field – Luke Lohmeyer and committee. Saying 4-Way Test at end of meeting.<br />

1995-96 – Joe Hentges was president.<br />

Built the community changeable message sign on Route 47 in front of Burger King as a club project.<br />

The project cost was $15,000. Added seven new Rotary members to our club. Contributed $1,000 to<br />

the Adult and Child Rehab Center. Co-sponsored the McHenry County Youth Immunization Project.<br />

1996-97 – Mary Kinert was president.<br />

1997-98 – Susan Martino was president.<br />

Received two District 6440 club awards – community service and vocational service. One hundred<br />

percent active participation by all club members. Contributed $1,000 to the Adult and Child Rehab<br />

Center. Designed and distributed “Do It Once, Do It Well” plaques with Rotary emblem (this project<br />

was recognized by Rotary International).<br />

1998-99 – Eric Burrell was president (moved partway through term).<br />

1999-00 – Andy Hartlieb was president.<br />

Dinner/Auction fundraiser – increased gross revenues over $30,000. Improved Rotary “Park” with<br />

“Welcome to Woodstock” sign near Routes 120 & 47. Served as president for 18 months due to Eric<br />

Burrell moving.<br />

2000-01 – Terry Carroll was president.<br />

Pierre-Olivier Nayna (France) – Rotary Youth Exchange student – inbound (club has hosted every year<br />

since chartering in 1968). Daniel Billimack (Japan) –Rotary Youth Exchange student – outbound.<br />

Obtained “Blaine Immunization Grant” from Rotary International in the amount of $1,000; and with<br />

matching club funds, purchased/installed wall-mounted “train play station” and McHenry County Health<br />

Center. Obtained “Community Assistance Program (CAP) Grant” from Rotary District 6440 in the<br />

amount of $1,000; and with club funds, purchased “Automatic-External Defibrillator (AED)” and gifted<br />

to City of Woodstock – Police Department for use in patrol car. George W. Frejd was honored by<br />

Rotary International with its distinguished Four Avenues of Service for Individual <strong>Rotarians</strong> Award.<br />

Charter member, George William “Bill” Frejd, passed away on 2/13/01 and a Memorial Vocational<br />

Scholarship was established in his honor. Mr. Donald Frejd presented the club with an antique<br />
