What we do<br />

The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) is an<br />

association of Sacramento Valley governments formed from the six<br />

regional counties—El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo <strong>and</strong><br />

Yuba—<strong>and</strong> 22 member cities. SACOG’s directors are chosen from<br />

the elected boards of its member governments. SACOG’s primary<br />

charge is to provide regional transportation planning <strong>and</strong> funding,<br />

as well as a forum for the study <strong>and</strong> resolution of regional issues.<br />

In this role, SACOG prepares the region’s long-range transportation<br />

plan; approves distribution of affordable housing around the region;<br />

keeps a region- wide database for its own <strong>and</strong> local agency use;<br />

helps counties <strong>and</strong> cities use federal transportation funds in a<br />

timely way; assists in planning for transit, bicycle networks, clean<br />

air <strong>and</strong> airport l<strong>and</strong> uses; <strong>and</strong> has completed the Blueprint Project<br />

which links transportation <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> development more closely.<br />
